My thought was that Clara's reaction to the new Doctor may be because while she's seen and interacted with the others (usually not to speak to, if I recall her narration correctly), she always thought that Eleven would be the one she travelled with — the one she considered 'real', for want of a better word. Now she hasn't got Eleven to come back to: she's got to rely on a Doctor she hasn't seen or interacted with before.
