I'm thinking more of things outside of LJ really, but more power to you if you're enjoying some interesting discussions about the new series. I think I'm going to wait until the whole thing's over before I offer any opinions one way or the other. There seems to be a lot going on there.

Or maybe I'm not as good at keeping track of it as I used to be. ;)

I think this episode in particular has caused a lot of debate, but I'm not sure the readings people on the other side of the Atlantic have put on it were really intended by the programme-makers, because the issue (you know what I'm talking about) just isn't as much of a socio-political big deal in the UK as it is in some other countries, at least not for a long time. I think the writer and production team certainly should have anticipated the reaction concerning how popular Who is in certain overseas markets nowadays and maybe changed tack accordingly, but they didn't. However, I think any offence they may have given to one camp or the other was the result of cluelessness and a failure to take the issue seriously enough due to cultural differences rather than anything intentional. Doesn't excuse anything, but perhaps makes some things about the episode more understandable.
