clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (11 I'm a TARGET!!!)

ELEVEN FIC!!

It's been a bit of a weird day, cleaning house and prepping for my nerd-out weekend (we're drinking sonic screwdrivers and watching Hamlet boo-yah). Is it sad that I've been looking forward to this for months? Then I got it into my head that my credit card had vanished and undid most of my cleaning frantically looking for it (when it was where it was supposed to be the entire time). Head!desk

By request, I bring you a great whacking list of Eleven-era fic which I enjoy and find reasonably well written. This isn't complete. I couldn't for the life of me find the one where he asks Sarah-Jane if seven year olds make appropriate companions again... which is a shame because it was good, and that one where Wee!Amy meets all of the other Doctors out of order during the 12 years.... And I'm sure I'm forgetting some. I know I'm missing a whole whack of good River ones (in fact, I don't think I have any River ones on this list, for shame). Probably I'll add to it as time goes on. But, for the moment, and in no particular order....

Title: Mad Nursing Skillz

Author:
[livejournal.com profile] sahiya

Summary:
In which the Doctor has a very bad day, Rory gets to do what he does best, and Amy kicks things. Well, people. Well, one person, specifically.

Best bits: Rory getting to show off his mad skills and take charge, the Doctor's fashionable choice of undergarments, and Amy's speech at the end about how they're all married in space.

Title:
Stand Outside (Women's Work Remix)

Author: [livejournal.com profile] ladymercury_10

Summary: Amy knows he takes trips without her when she sleeps. When something goes wrong, it's up to her to look after him. Remix of "Mad Nursing Skillz" by Sahiya. Set after "Cold Blood" and before the finale.

Best bits: Eleven comforting Amy when he's hurt and apologizing to her for things she doesn't remember. The absence of Rory really is heartbreaking after reading the story its remixed from.

Title: Picky Eater

Author:
[livejournal.com profile] beautybecks

Summary:
Rory isn’t eating. The Doctor is worried. And he’s right to be.

Best bits:
The Doctor and Rory talking to each other, which is basically the entire fic.

“Oh Rory!” The Doctor finally gives into his instincts and pulls Rory into a hug, before tapping on his nose. “You need to stop thinking so much. Thoughts are bad, especially kept to yourself. Eat up at you and until you say them out loud you have no idea how stupid they are. You should talk more. I talk a lot. Helps keep me sane. Rory?”

“I’m fine, Doctor.” Rory insists.

“No you’re not. You just said so yourself. You really should listen to yourself Rory.”

Title: Stories We Tell Our Children

Author: [livejournal.com profile] calapine

Summary: Tell stories; be kind; remember. A response to The Big Bang.

Best bits: I really had to fight the strong desire to quote the entire story.

This is a story about a little red-haired Scottish girl who lives in a big house full of empty rooms and forgotten people.

This is a story about a boy made of plastic who believes he is human. He kills the woman he loves and watches the universe end. He believes in miracles.

This is the story of a woman who loves a man who doesn’t know her, not yet.

This is the story of a lonely old man, a wizard and a thief, a madman in a box who keeps his swimming pool in the library.

Title: Four times Rory Williams failed to save a life (and one time he succeeded)

Author: [livejournal.com profile] heleentje

Summary: It's Rory's job to help people. He doesn't always do as well as he would like.

Best bits: Rory being Rory – and the way in which the story treats small tragedy and planet wide catastrophe with equal compassion. And this bit, because it cracks me up every time:

“Rome, 15th century,” the Doctor suggested. “How about it?”

“Nah, it’s a stupid place.” Rory took another sip from his beer.

Title: First Meetings

Author:[livejournal.com profile] freakishlemon

Summary: None given. Rory meets the Brigadier for the first time.

Best bits: The weave of past-present, is and never-was but could-have-been and always will be is beautiful and I don't think I could do it justice with a single grabbed quote. The Brigadier is the Brig, even in a world without stars or aliens. This one has utterly wormed its way into my personal canon, and not just because it explains how Rory got his job as a security guard. (and the Brig putting Eleven in his place? Hillarious)

Title: Seventeen Facts about Amelia Jessica Pond

Author: [livejournal.com profile] melengro

Summary: From the cradle to entering the TARDIS, Amy’s life and times.

Best Bits: It's list fic and large chunks of it have been thoroughly jossed by the finale, but I still love this. It's one of the first Eleven era fics I found and it's really influenced my viewing of Amy's character and resulting head!canon.

Title: The Box Below

Author: dsudis

Summary: If time can be rewritten, then this is an early draft.

Best bits: The summary, for one. For two, this story is very, very creepy and it made me cry a bit. It's AU and canon compliant at the same time, which is, I suppose, one of those things that can only happen in Who. Wee!Amelia is as brilliant as she's ever been as she confronts the tragic monster who has been stealing her life to save it.

Title: The Longest Road

Author: [livejournal.com profile] izhilzha

Summary: The Doctor isn't here yet. Bollocks.

Best bits: Amy and Rory. Counting pterodactyls. An extremely well-realised alien setting. Amy and Rory. Amy with stubborn faith. Rory with rage and concern. The Doctor, who is late. I can't pick a best bit. It's good from front to end and it's raw because this is who these characters are. I should probably warn for violence.

Title: Fare/Taste

Author: [livejournal.com profile] honeynoir

Summary: The Doctor cooks for Amy and Rory

Best bits: Cheating a bit here to bring you two stories at once, but they're in a series and form halves of a whole so it's okay.

The Doctor merely smiled, pocketing the sonic. “Right,” he said. “You’ve got food, water, red-and-white tablecloth, spoon, knife and fork —” he pointed at Rory, an ingenious smile on his face —“and candles! This is a perfect date.”

“Depends on the food, though, doesn’t it?” said Amy, a gleam in her eye.

Title: Time Out

Author: [livejournal.com profile] jjpor

Summary: Just when he thought things couldn't get any worse, the Eleventh Doctor has to tackle the thorny issue that is UNIT dating... Inspired by the Really Stretching UNIT Dating series (no, not that kind of dating, get your minds out of the gutter!)

Best bits: There's so much good stuff in here, Eleven being his fine self, the Brig, Benton, UNIT dating and bad early seventies attempts to predict the near future – but I think my favourite bit is Eleven having a bit of a moment over the man his former companion ditched him for.

It was at this point that the two officers noted the Doctor standing a few feet away from them. They both stared at him for an awkward moment, the commander’s moustache twitching irritably.

“Er…” The Doctor shifted uneasily from one foot to the other. “Hi,” he managed eventually. “It’s me, the Doctor.”

“Of course you’re the Doctor,” the officer with the moustache replied with a frown. “And where on Earth is Miss Grant?”

“Jo?” For a moment the Doctor was lost in thought, before responding: “The last I heard, she was up the Amazon, saving the world by eating quorn and wearing plastic sandals. With a Welshman.” He paused awkwardly. “Yes…lovely flowing locks... And Jo’s hair didn’t look bad either. Anyway, yes, look; I’m the Doctor,” said the Doctor. “And you’re the Brigadier.”

Title: Fussy

Author: [livejournal.com profile] sahiya

Summary: Taste buds are tricky little buggers

Best bits: Eleven conquers his gag reflex… and fails to comprehend Earth customs. I just love the Eleven voice and how irritated/fascinated he is by his own fussy eating habits.

Title: Patient

Author: hoosierbitch

Summary: Rory figures the Doctor is a lot like the TARDIS

Warnings: No sex, but team!TARDIS is gearing up for a threesome

Best bits:

He looks normal enough on the outside. A bit out of place, maybe – a police box where there shouldn’t be one, a young man wearing suspenders and bowtie instead of a t-shirt – but not anything anyone’d do more than raise an eyebrow at.

Rory figures the Doctor’s a lot like the TARDIS. Always ready to disappear, leaving behind the seeds of myths and legends and make-believe games in his wake.

Title: Hunt the Heavens

Author:[livejournal.com profile] lannamichaels

Summary: Beware what has been hidden. Beware the Pandorica. Beware the end.

Best bits: You kind of just have to let it rush over you. I'm a bit fan of this short-lived fic genre that picked up between The Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang; all of these what ifs and explanations for what happened/might have happened to the Doctor in his box. I like this one because the Doctor, mighty ancient alien trickster goblin wizard that he is, isn't afraid of the dark and knows how to survive.

Title: The Present is a Foreign Country

Author: [livejournal.com profile] lannamichaels

Summary: The world does not end and Sheldon falls in love. 600 word flashfic. (Crossover with The Big Bang Theory)

Best bits:

It is when Sheldon sees the answers to life, the universe, and everything scroll by on the screen during the semi-annual we're-all-going-to-die-and-it's-all-the-UK's-fault web conference that he discovers, much to his surprise, that he has a sex drive.

Title: The Care and Feeding of Tiny Humans (and slightly larger Time Lords)

Author: [livejournal.com profile] netgirl_y2k

Summary: The one where the Doctor comes back for little Amelia Pond

Best bits:

Dear Amelia Pond's Aunt,

I have borrowed your niece for adventures through time and space. Will bring her back tomorrow(ish). Don't worry, she'll be perfectly safe(ish).

Yours Sincerely,
The Doctor (The Last of the Time Lords)

P.S. You now have an extra room upstairs, no need to thank me.
P.P.S. I crushed your garden shed, I'm sorry.

Title: The Time I've Spent

Author: [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27

Summary: "I don't wait for people, Rory. I make them wait for me."

Best bits: Rory deserves a medal. I can't say more without giving away the ending, but read this, read it for Rory.

Title: Backwards then Forwards

Author: [livejournal.com profile] abbyromana

Summary: On his way to see Churchill, the Doctor meets his painful past on Shan Shen... for better or worse?

Best bits: the round-about way in which the Doctor does and doesn't forgive himself; the fact that after such a meeting the fic doesn't end on angst but with Eleven ploughing forward to live his new life. And the world-building. good stuff this.

Title: Hello, Doctor. I'm the Doctor

Author: FuntimeVash

Summary: The Eleventh Doctor and the Meta-crisis 10.5 finally meet, but how will they react when they discover the true purpose of their existence? And how will Rose feel about the man who left her behind without saying goodbye? With bonus Amy Pond! One-shot.

Best bits:

"So you used to travel with the Doctor," Amy asked casually as Rose led her outside to the backyard, to stroll along her lovely flower garden.

"Something like that," Rose replied nonchalantly. "But that was a long time ago. I made my choice. Or rather, he made it for me, I suppose. It wouldn't be the first time."

"So, what? He just travels around with a harem?"

Rose laughed and shook her head. "I don't think that's how he'd describe it."

And, of course, Eleven's speech at the end with the tea and the jammie dodgers, but I don't want to ruin it.

Title: Warzone

Author: Macca17

Summary: The Doctor, Rory and Amy arrive in the middle of a senseless war only to discover that they have been beaten to it. (Contains mild spoilers for the end of series 5)

Best bits: It's a WIP so maybe I shouldn't be reccing it before it's done but IT IS LONG!FIC ABOUT SEVEN AND ELEVEN!!! And the character voices are dead-on.

‘I might have known you’d be here,’ shouted the Doctor, ‘a great big mess of a war with no end in sight, right up your alley.’

‘Who is it, Doctor?’ Amy asked with her hands slowly dropping to her side.

‘Your question contains your answer,’ the voice purred again, and this time Amy caught the great incongruity of the accent like her own.

Author: Saywheeeee

Can I just rec everything this person has written so far?!? Yes, it's all shippy Eleven/Amy and I'm not sure I'm on board that particular vessel... but good fic is good fic! Notables are: hung aloft the night and its sequel jump. Then there's each piece inextricably and, my personal favourite, before we go on (because apparently I've got a thing for Eleven when he's wet and gratuitously shirtless…)

Title: Amelia and the Gigantic Gobstopper

Author:
[livejournal.com profile] lost_spook

Summary:
Amelia Pond meets another mad man with a box who wants to talk about food. (Crossover with Roald Dahl.)

Best bits: Amelia!fic is always a good thing and this crossover is no exception.

No, lick the gobstopper. It’s a different flavour each time. But can you imagine the work that goes into making each one? How does anyone know how many times a gobstopper will be licked and as a new flavour entirely is needed for each one, how many flavours must that be? Oh, the artistry, the endless quest for something new! Have you anything to suggest?”

She looked down at it, and sighed, because he was a very strange man, and this was definitely a sweet. A great big sweet that was now yellow and red and bright green, and smelled of pineapples. Then she looked at him. “I know someone who likes fish-fingers and custard. I don’t expect you’ve tried that.”

Title: Break of Day

Author: [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler

Summary: The Eleventh Doctor has some questions for Sarah about aunts and orphans.

Best bits: I love how obvious and oblivious the Doctor is. I love how steady Sarah-Jane is. And I love how sweet and adorable this fic is, even if there is sadness underneath, there's an even stronger undercurrent of friendship.

"Four more questions, then. Did your aunt leave you on your own when you were a child? Did she ignore you when you spoke about terrifying cracks in your wall? Would she have noticed if you'd suddenly disappeared one night? And would she have missed you after you left?" He held up a finger for each question, counting them off.

Sarah sighed. "Yes, no -- but I had no cracks in my wall, or no terrifying ones -- yes, and I certainly hope so. Doctor, what is this about?"

Right, that's my mega long list as it stands at the moment. If I've missed any please be letting me know! (I want to read them!!)
