clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (A dozen words could travel so far)

Here a poem, there a poem...

Yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook and bearing in mind that I am very tired and some of these became actual drabbles as a result

1: Pick five fandoms. List them in alphabetical order.

Blake's 7
Doctor Who
Kamin Rider OOOs
Magic School Bus
Sapphire and Steel

2: Visit this site to find your first RANDOM POEM OF POWER. Write down the 5th line (yes, even if it's an E.E. Cummings poem and you wind up with an apostrophe). Repeat five times and - you guessed it - list 'em in alphabetical order! (No cheating, mind! This is a challenge and it's always been about creativity.)

3: I think you can see where this is going. Write a very quick 50-word half-drabble for each fandom (try to do it all in one sitting - make your brain explode!), using the line from the poem as a prompt. You don't have to include it in the half-drabble - it's just inspiration.

4: Bravo! Have a cookie.

Blake's 7: Came and were gone. He leant upon a tree (William Butler Yeats)

Another revolutionary stands in the stained sunlight of Gauda Prime. He's reading a map for buried treasure. He's looking up from the readout to a tree with sad words scrawled in its bark. There's a genie buried here, wrapped in a dead man's clothes. It can grant wishes, legend says.

The revolutionary gets dirt under his nails digging. He doesn't like that. He thinks about his wish. It must be phrased exactly. The genie can leave out information and twist meanings. It's last master died that way, rumour says.

Wishes are specious, the genie cannot say. Keyless, it regrets.

Doctor Who: g (e.e. cummings)

Seven ducklings cross the road in a disastrously perpendicular arrangement, tripping over themselves until there is a tumbled pile of yellow fluff outrageously quaking in the middle of the motorway. Their mother mounts a hissing defense. Hopeless. Until a stranger in question marks risks traffic to rescue them.

The drivers offer creative curses.

"Impatient toerags," says the stranger's apprentice.

"People are busy with their lives. Too busy to care about the fate of little birds wandering into danger but – " the stranger sets down the last duckling, safe on the grassy verge, and taps his apprentice's nose. "They still stopped."

Kamen Rider OOOs: It aims once—kills once—conquers once— (Emily Dickinson)

"Desire aims for the sky. Greed kills the dreams achieved there, conquering nothing but ash."

"He fit all that on a cake?" Hina asked.

"It was a big cake," said Shintaro, looking queasy.

"Was it legible?" Date asked.

"It was a lesson," groaned Shintaro.

"Tch," said Ankh. "Ice is better."

Magic School Bus: Loving offenders, thus I will excuse ye: (William Shakespeare)

Liz pranced from desk to desk, checking homework assignments. Arnold sunk low in his chair, dreading the inevitable.

"You didn't finish?" Miss Frizzle asked.

"I didn't even get a chance to start, Janet visited and then…"

"Never mind," Miss Frizzle said, earrings twinkling. "You can makeup on the field trip."

Sapphire and Steel: So o'er a pint I asked how he (Robert Service)

Silver picked up a spoon from the bar top and squeezed it experimentally. There was an infinitum of shapes locked within the base frame of atoms, but he couldn't summon the creativity for any of them.

Why did things have to change anyway? Why did he have to be responsible for those changes?

"Lady troubles?" the bartender asked.

"What?"

"The look on your face, that's usually the cause."

"No, well, I suppose, in a way. A lady and a gentleman."

"That's usually how it goes."

Silver leaned forward. "Is it?"

"And I suppose she disappeared with him?"

"Without a trace."

Oh, very good! The first two are wonderful in so many ways (and bravo for dealing with the ee cummings!), but... you also wrote S&S, and that was perfect... ouch.

leaving aside the blake one for the moment, i LOVE the doctor who one. it is adorable seven and ace stuff (and tiny animals), and also hopeful about the fate of the universe. a really perfect drabble.

also - it amuses me that you actually got the treatened cummings.

as for the blake one...... for some reason avon's abandoned clothes make me terrible sad in the way that many other PGP things never have.

Oh, that Blake's 7 one is so sad. :( Poor ... well, everybody involved.

Luckily, the Doctor Who was sweet and made me smile. Hurrah for Ace and Seven! :)
