30 Day Meme, Day 13: Best use of a hoary old trope

Before getting into the meat of the day's meme fill, I just want to say The Hermit Liveth! huzzah!

Choosing the best use of a trope is hard because there are so many tropes, and they aren't sly, sneaky tropes either, it's more like the writers wrote a bunch of common tropes on a die and took a roll before penning each episode (at least in the later series). I think that the best (and also worst) use of tropes comes in Ultraworld. Best, because it is the most gratuitous use of tropagge I've ever seen.

But also worst because... well, it presents the tropes, but never actually delivers on them. Bodyswap is just tossed to the side, when clearly, having Avon and Cally swapped for an episode would have been ridiculously interesting! Far more interesting than say...yet another Steed episode. *sighs*

(that said, I suppose we should count ourselves as lucky that Steed wasn't assigned to write a genderswap episode. I don't even want to think about how that would've gone...)

HERMIT. I had missed it so much, I hadn't finished going through nearly all the fic yet!

... I kind of hate you for making me imagine what an Avon and Cally bodyswap episode would have been like written by Ben Steed. Ugh.

Written by anybody else though, it might have been rather fun. Avon would have been so brilliantly cross, it would have been hilarious.

Sorry. It came into my brain and then I had to share the horror of it. It would make a good prompt though. Hmmm... might add that one to the meme...

I missed Hermit so much too! Mostly the transcripts and the sevenencyclopedia, but also ALL THE FIC. :D

*intense, visceral shudder of horror* Oh God, small mercies that we were spared that.

But like lycoris says above, it would have been fantastic in other hands! I can think of a lot of bodyswap possibilities that would have been fun in canon--Vila/anyone, for example...
