One of these days...

I have to find the time/resources to read some Doctor Who comics, because they appear to be the maddest things ever produced. There's Frobisher, obviously, and the terrifying Beep the Meep, but I've just discovered that in Eleven's comics he apparently travels with a giant robotic T-Rex named Kevin.

This makes me happy inside.

Signal Boost

I think most people on the flist know this but...

Next month is Three month at [livejournal.com profile] who_at_50! You can sign up here to create Three-themed fanworks for this 50th anniversary ficathon. The alternative monthly theme is spin-offs, so if you aren't a big Three fan but love Torchwood, the Sarah-Jane Adventures, K9 and Company, Jago and Litefoot or, er... that odd BBV production about Zygons, then you should amble on over and make fanworks about those things!

Eating your words can be tasy

I'm certain that I've said, "Torchwood is the worst show ever and cannot under any circumstances be good" at some point, maybe not in that exact form, but the general sentiment anyway. Now, I've known for awhile that this isn't strictly speaking true, because [livejournal.com profile] jjpor has spent the last several years writing fic which proves this wrong.

(If you haven't read his Edwardian Torchwood series, check them out. You won't be disappointed)

I have just been emotionally assaulted by a graphic novel

The graphic novel in question is Y: The Last Man. I'd give the Wikipedia link, but I appreciated the story so much that I wouldn't want any potential readers to accidentally spoil themselves (while I was reading it I was very frustrated with the guy I was borrowing it from's reluctance to give any spoilers, but I was happy about his resolve on that front by the end.)

Well. I say happy.

The ending (without spoilers), was tragic, poetic, realistic, hopeful-when-you-think-about-it, and makes me want to read the whole series over. The series itself follows the adventures of Yorick Brown, a 20-something unemployed college student and his pet monkey. They are, for reasons unknown to themselves, the only survivors of a plague that has killed every male mammal on the planet. It's really, really, really good and I want to recommend it to anyone on the Flist looking for a cool read that's a bit off the beaten track.

(also, browsing around online shows that it might be turning into a movie next year)

Well, we dodged that one anyway...

Under these circumstances, rain will be allowed

I was just about to write a complaining type of post about how it's nearly 9 and my plans of getting groceries (potatoes, carrots, butter, and milk OH MY!) and thus also my plans of banana bread, have been mercilessly squashed by the weather. I mean, really weather? First floods, then disgusting heat, and now on my first day off after the long weekend madness you bless us with... severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings?

*insert appropriate face!palm here*

But then it seemed to be lightening up outside a bit and the warnings had been receded. So I stuck out my head, and:

Maybe spoilers (I really hope not)

http://whatculture.com/tv/doctor-who-10-theories-for-john-hurts-doctor.php

This was worth reading just for number 5, which made me actually cry a bit (with laughter), because is this actually a theory?!? Though the article purports that there is at least one active thread on the subject so... I choose to believe that thread is being ironic.

Number 4 is probably funny to people who've seen Alien. I haven't. please don't judge me. Number 2 got me giggling again because... well. Because. Seriously.

The only theory here I found substantially intriguing was number 3. Discuss.

Also, what are your most off the wall theories for John Hurt's identity?

Eleventyfest!

It's a fan fest devoted to everyone's favourite Doctor with invisible eyebrows and a fez.

Rules and Sign-ups can be found here... but move fast! They're only open until tomorrow (that's Friday the 28).

Yes, I know that I should've been pimping this slightly earlier, but it honestly didn't occur to me until I saw [livejournal.com profile] eve11's post.

So, that ate my brain a bit

WARNING

The following fic was written in a sleep-deprived state and is apt to be full of nonsense. It is also based off speculation, rumours, and spoilers for the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who. If you want none of that, I suggest you avoid clicking the cut. Otherwise, dive right in and enjoy.

900 odd words of spoiller-y fic. It doesn't have a title, which seems somehow appropriate to the subject matter )

Well, it should have been expected...

It would appear that, if this is successful, humanity's first steps towards colonizing a new planet will be funded and planned using the magic of reality television:

I really don't know what to think about this, but it is rather cool that it's open to anyone. So, if you want a shot at a one-way trip to Mars (and are willing to risk 33$ on the mission folding) apply now!

The Rings of Something Review

[Poll #1907060]

I've also got a poll up there, because, why not? I'm leaning towards Susan myself... The poll originally also featured Susan's Gran, Jo Grant, and Winston Churchill in a dress, but apparently lj's poll maker will only allow so many ticky boxes before getting mad.

And here's my Very Spoilery review:

Snapshots of Adventures Which Never Were

Earlier this year, after watching The Snowmen, I filled [livejournal.com profile] eve11's fandom stocking with this bit of missing adventure science-fluff-tragedy: http://www.whofic.com/viewstory.php?sid=49148

The OC then became glued to my brain and a large amount of fanart related. Bearing in mind that I'm currently bereft of a functioning scanner and have never properly tried inking before, I think they turned out rather well... Okay, Eleven definitely has a squashed head in one and looks like a mutated cat-thing in another, but I'm still quite proud of them. I tried to write more fic to go along with it (I actually tried making a full-on comic at one point) but the pressures of time and attention-span greatly reduced those ambitions.

So, without further ado, snapshots from adventures that never were:Obviously image heavy )

City of Waiting Part VI

And here's chapter six! I think I have to apologize to Rory for this - but things aren't really as bad as they seem for him. I mean, things are hardly great, but like he says right at the start: it's not all bad, and he wasn't completely alone.

City of Waiting Part V

At nearly 5000 words, this is by far the longest chapter in this story. Beware the endless exposition. Initially, this entire fic was supposed to be a combination of letters and Brian's reactions to them, but the epistolary style eludes me. Any advice on how to tighten things up would be well taken.

Now, without further ado:

City of Waiting Part IV

Thanks to Persiflage for the spot edits on the last few posts. So, after this point I've got two and a half chapters written and I just have to make the conclusion somewhat decent (this beign the part where I usually end up distractedly wandering off in the metaphorical fields of daisies and staring blanky into space...)

Anyway, this chapter also contains friends old and new (but mostly old), a sneaky bit of time lapsing in order to Build Suspense, and more tea.
