The sudden explosion of B7 fic on Ao3 is making me very, very happy. There's been something like 20 stories posted in the past week! It's more new works than I've seen in my entire time in this fandom all at once! *claps hands in glee*

Merry Christmas all!

I've just spent the eve of it making penguin nails, cleaning the house, writing fic, and watching old British SciFi. Since I know at least one person of the flist who will probably get quite a bit of glee out of there being a reaction post to this... here you are [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook. You are a dangerous dealer of vintage fandom, you know that, right?

This one is an idea that grabbed hold a few days ago and refused to let go until it was written down. I'm not entirely satisfied with it, especially the ending, but I like the base idea and had fun writing Vila and Blake's back-and-forth. If anyone wants to give concrit it would be well welcomed.

Before proceeding, I should mention that I usually spend half of lunchtime reading with the balance being spent in a nap when reading becomes too tiresome. Half the time I end up dreaming about what I was reading and it all gets jumbled strangely...

The marvellous elves over at fandom_stocking at working quick! My stocking's been validated and is hung up HERE

If you've hung a stocking please let me know in the comments (I'm tracking any that I see mentioned on the flist, but things can be missed).

I just thought of it, and checked, and IT'S FANDOM STOCKING TIME!

*is giddy*

I've been looking forward to being able to do this - with proper internet - all year.

I opened Written?Kitten! earlier tonight, fulling intending to finish my 50ficathon contribution. Instead, this popped out because Blake's 7 has clearly eaten my brain and decided that I should be a flailing fic-producing fangirl for a show that's been off the air since before I was born. Oh brain. But all is not lost, because this was written with one of my h/c bingo prompts in mind... though, with the way it turned out, I don't think it actually is that much of a stranded/survival situation kind of story (no desert islands, no huddling together for warmth), but they are stranded more or less, and there is a survival situation, in that there is a situation which is not helpful to survival...

Title: On the Edge
Fandom: B7
Words: 1705
Characters: Avon, Blake
Summary: Blake's brilliant plan went sideways, they didn't get what they came for, the Liberator wouldn't respond, and a squad of Federation troopers chased them through the night... what else could possibly go wrong?

I've never actually carved a pumpkin before (I've made designs on pumpkins with magic marker when I was a kid, but that's not quite the same), so, all considered, I think that Cuddles turned out pretty well:

Would you like a cuddle?

A meme!

In honor of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.).

The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

It should be well evidenced by now that Blake's 7 has eaten my brain a bit, but now it's official because I've made fic, and me writing non-Whoniverse fic is a rare thing indeed. It's also filling the cursed prompt on my H/C bingo card.

And then other people come along and wipe the tapes, but if you fast-forward four decades you learn that the universe is big, it's vast and complicated, and ridiculous. And sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles. And that's the theory.

So, I know this was accidentally embargo leaked hours ago (and the rumours have been going around and frustrating us all for months), but it's really nice to see it laid out all official-like. Apparently they might be available for viewing on itunes as early as tomorrow. Can't think of a better 50th birthday present for the show than that.

ETA: Downloading as I type. Oh my giddy aunt! Enemy of the World is downloading and it is not a recon. SQUEE!

I... what did I just watch?!?!
This could not be more crack if it tried. )

Since I'm getting near the end of the season I feel like the next two episode are probably going to be really depressing and full of people randomly dying and awful cliff-hangers and all of that... which I will watch with anticipation and enjoyment, but I really enjoyed this crack. It was just so much crack. :D

ETA: I just watched the finale, and yup. Check. Check. Double check on the cliff-hanger. But I loved this bit of dialogue:

Vila: "Avon, this is stupid!"
Avon: "And since when has that ever stopped us?"

Ahhh!! Time to mainline series 3 me thinks.

So, LJ is having another unexplained bit of downtime, so I'll just be posting this here until it decides to come back. This episode was very predictable, deeply enjoyable, and just about the crackiest thing I have ever seen in my life:

I've decided to use my day off to start watching Blake's 7. I'm not entirely certain what I was expecting but I was not expecting a dystopia this intense. I know that the scriptwriter being Terry Nation probably should have tipped me off but...
30+ year old spoiler alert! )
clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (Eleven's Bowtie)
All has been revealed, the fest is now, for most intents and purposes, finished, and I'm left wondering where I'm going to get my daily dose of Eleventy now that it's all over...

Because that was A LOT of fun. The format, with dispensing of only a few fics a day and the anonymous creators, made for such an atmosphere of suspense and mystery, and the end result was so many lovely things.

I was the proud recipient of:

20 Eleven icons by coffeesuperhero.

And gah, aren't they pretty? Lookit his face! And the colours! Coffeesuperhero does such a wonderful job with the green and brown palette, making them Bright and Cheerful colours. I don't know if she/he knew those were my favourites, but I'm so happy and impressed. I've stopped requesting those colours because the results are usually a bit... mixed... but these are brilliant! And, so long as Coffeesuperhero is okay with it, anyone who wants can grab and use. I know that's always a bit of an odd point with icons made for another person. Hmmm... I should probably put that on the post itself to. Such pretties should not be squandered and I've got only so many icon spots to show them off in!

The Humpday Party Mix by [livejournal.com profile] eve11.

Summary: Shuffle. Record. Rewind. Play.
Word count: 3997
Characters: Eleven, Clara, Surprise Guest

OMG, THIS! THIS! [livejournal.com profile] eve11 snuck this in right under the line at the point where I wasn't expecting anything else to be posted to the fest - let alone something else for me. It perfectly fulfilled my longing for some plot-based gen fic about Eleven and Clara just... having an adventure together without angst, or plot arcs, or mad timey-wimey circumstances to detract from the adorableness of their sass and bicker. There's a bit of timey-wimey (because with those two, it's inevitable), but it's more of a bonus epilogue to the actual plot (and it's so well done and moving). Plus, there are judgmental plants, amazing world building, and that Surprise Gust who had me making most undignified sounds of squee when he showed up.

--

Myself, I had a more than a little bit too much fun creating things. My two assignments (I signed up to pinch hit) were:

Doubt is a pain too lonely, for [livejournal.com profile] nancybrown who requested a fic where Rita survived after The God Complex.
Word count: 1893
Characters: Eleven. Rita
Warnings: Brief discussion of suicide, brief mentions of what happened to Donna, lots of stuff about faith and religion
Links: HERE at Eleventy_Fest and HERE on the Teaspoon

and

Story About a Girl, for [livejournal.com profile] kaydeefalls who requested Clara encounters any past companion of the Doctor as the Impossible Girl and Clara's mum died on the day the Autons attacked in Rose
Word count: 3752
Characters: Clara, Nina, Nine, Rose
Summary: The most precious moments come between waking up and falling asleep
Warnings: Character death, but that should be obvious from the characters and the prompts
Links: HERE at Ao3 and HERE on the Teaspoon

We were also allowed to make anonymous gifts as we felt for for any prompts that we found inspiring.

I did a cake!fic for nonelvis (which she guessed was me right away... it was pretty obvious, what with the cake and all). Don't Pretend This Wasn't Intentional is 323 words and is posted HERE at Ao3 and HERE on the Teaspoon. (Lost_spook, you can move it into the collection if you'd like).

I also did a bit of fanart for NancyBrown's other prompts. One was on Jenny and Vastra adopting a homicidal potato, the other was on how River's sex life didn't stop after being downloaded into the Library. Both (completely pg) attempts are HERE. I'll get them uploaded to DeviantArt at some later date.

And finally, for [livejournal.com profile] hearyoume I learned how to make .gifs out of video clips, a skill which I am certain will come in handy in the future. Hearyoume wanted an animated Friends Only banner based on Vincent and the Doctor's starry night scene. Over HERE.

---

There is also a TON of other stuff over at the com. I'd make recs, but I'd end up reccing all of it I think (though, lucky me, my Calufrax posting is coming up so I'll be able to do some on there maybe). I recommend that anyone on my flist who wasn't involved check out the MASTER POST there are so many amazing fics, and vids, and graphics, artworks, podfics... it''s just astonishing. The vids especially. I've had You're No God stuck in my head ALL MONTH because of them.

Big shout out of thanks to the mods. And also to [livejournal.com profile] eve11 for beta'ing for me.

Right, so my attempts at posting this on lj and the teaspoon both led to utterly borked formatting. AO3 sort of borked it, but it didn't make it utterly unreadable so -

Title: A New Being
Word Count: 8337
Characters: Eleven, Clara, Clara's father, the Maitland family
Summary: Christmas! With the Doctor and Clara and Clara's family, and the Maitland family, and isn't it a happy joyous occasion? Except for the freak weather, the mysterious power bumps, and the suspicious Christmas presents. Oh... and the Doctor is acting weird...

--

I wanted to have a go at the Christmas episode before it actually aired, so I challenged myself to write a script up for it. Since it started coming together remarkably fast once the outline was down, I challenged myself further to see if I could finish it in a week. Because I am insane.

It's about 43 pages in Word when properly formatted, so I reckon it would run episode length (and oh, but I am peeved about the formatting getting borked after working so hard on making it all professional like, but apparently HTML and white space hate each other, so). I've got no illusions that it would actually be a good episode (it's got loads of gratuitous flashbacks and angst and references to past stories), but I'm fairly certain it makes more sense than... The End of Time, say? so, there's that.

This is also fulfilling the family square on my [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card.

Standard Disclaimer: Doctor Who and its characters belong to the BBC and associated copy-right holders. I am making no profit and am just doing this as a writing exercise and for a bit of fun

Disclaimer Two: I actually really like The End of Time. It's a crazy rollicking romp of random. It just doesn't make much sense.
