30 Days Meme
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
After being inspired by... the majority of my flist, I'm swiping this from
liadtbunny. And I'm doing B7 this time around, though I feel like this is a meme which could get much millage being reused for different shows (and eras of shows?) as it strikes my fancy.
Question 1: Favourite Episode (s)
Gambit, definitely. It is such sheer cracktasticness. My initial reaction to it is HERE and it really hasn't changed. There is, after all, so much to love. There is the epic camp. There's is Servalan's unexpectedly colourful wardrobe choice. There is everyone questioing the sanity of John Leeson's wig!hat. There is the Christmas tinsel. There is Avon and Vila stealing stuff for lulz, and Orac coming along as well so that the three of them are having a ridiculous and dysfunctional boy's night out at the Casino. There's Robert Holmes dialogue. There's Jenna and Cally's fake cat fight. There's scruffy!Travis being all disreputable and rubbish. There's Avon and Vila trying to look innocent at the end. There's the ice cream!
There is, in fact, pretty much nothing I don't like in Gambit. It is the perfect calm before the storm of the series two finale, and I wish there had been time for more moments/episodes like it. It is, probably, the closest to happy Avon ever is in the entire series, and I think he (and all of them) deserved a bit more of that.
In my mind, there was a lot more of it. In my mind, they were getting up to hi-jinks like this ALL THE TIME.

While Gambit is definitely my favourite episode, Rumours of the Death is a close second place. It's not first place because the sub-plot was super obvious and super confusing at the same time (if you-know-who is helping the rebels... then why does she try to kill Avon? Who is a rebel now?) And because Avon's plan has serious holes in it and really shouldn't have worked as well as it did (and given that it worked... really badly, that's saying something).
But generally I like it, and I've actually re-watched it more times than Gambit because it inspires so many feelings in me (especially the bit where they all say they care about Avon), and it's very important to the on-going plot and how messed up Avon is as the series progresses. I'm also impressed at the writers for carrying a plot across two seasons in a time when arcs, multi-season plot threads, and, most importantly, repeats, DVDs, and internet message boards, weren't things that happened. It feels very ahead of its time.
And I really like Tarrant's stupid bow.

yes! me too. i should try and remember that when the personal fanon question comes around. it's also important for my avon-vila head canon, because i think that they definitely like each other based on what happens on screen, but that is also supported by my idea that they are constantly nicking things together off camera while blake's back is turned.
also - it's interesting that you rate rumours so highly, but when you actually break down how you feel about it it's almost exactly the same as how i feel about - and i would rate it a lot lower because I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON. but i also love the bow, and perhaps more importantly the bit where they say they love him, and the random chris boucher guards who have good dialogue, and servalan chained to a wall. there's lots of awesome stuff in rumours, but not quite enough. to counteract the stuff that i just don't get. plus it would have to beat out a lot of other episodes with avon feels, and even though this one has the most avon feels (and is vital to informing 'blake', for me - which also doesn't make my top 10)... yes. not second best. but it is good!
and gambit is obviously win :D

I like seeing your choice of questions too (slightly narcissistic of me). Wot no best SFX?;p Everyone likes a pretty picture it seems.

I can answer your question about Rumours - or rather, give my intereptation. She tries to kill Avon because she's (probably correctly) assuming that he will turn around and shoot her very shortly after processing everything. Whether he would or not ... I think maybe? Might have depended on a few other things.
Tarrant's stupid bow is adorable and wonderful and always makes me happy. :)

Every other week at least, yes. ;-)

Alternatively, this website is giving hilarious commentary on the episodes: http://thewifeandblake.com/ but... there be spoilers there.

(I have re-watched all of the Avon/Orac bits of the show and embarrassing number of times. Especially the bits in Sand and Games.)

My weird head canon, which I should probably save for the appropriate week, is that Servalan was notified as soon as Avon's terrible "get captured, get tortured, ?, ..., profit!" plan was put into action and she set the whole thing up just to mess with him. I know that doesn't actually make much sense, but then again, neither does most of the episode.
But Tarrant's bow is the best.
