I tried to make it as clear as possible that he picked up the tape when he was investigating Clara's history, before they even went to Akhaten, so that's why he had it to begin with. Also he told her it was in her bag because otherwise he'd have gotten more grief from her for being in her room (even though he wasn't...)
Yay, I'm glad that came through, that he realized yeah, he had to give it back to her but earlier in her timeline. Otherwise she wouldn't have had it at all.
