End of year fic meme 2013
So, 2013 is well and truly over, so this is now more of a beginning-of-the-year meme. Never mind. Since I'm linking from Ao3 and I transferred these over randomly I really have no idea of the exact chronological order they fit in. I suppose I could go on the Teaspoon and read the exact dates, but that seems a lot too much like hard work.
Doctor Who:
Missing Link on the Brink of Destruction 3622 (Eleven, OCs, the Paternoster Gang. Written for
eve11 in fandom_stocking)
Pinions of Time 775 (Nine, Jack Harkness, Rose Tyle. Written for
who_at_50)
Emissaries from a Charitable Earth 4245 (Fitz Kreiner. Written for
who_at_50)
Bake Sale 3285 (Cake!fic with Three, Ten, the Brigadier, Jo Grant, Donna Noble, Kate Stewart, and an OC. Written for
who_at_50)
Bad Parts 10594 (Eleven, Clara Oswald, the Paternoster Gang)
Doubt is a pain too lonely 1942 (Eleven, Rita Afzal. Discussion suicidal behaviour. Written for Eleventyfest)
Don't pretend this wasn't intentional 323 (Cake!fic with Romana II, River Song, and a very uncomfortable Eleven. Written for Eleventyfest)
Story About a Girl 3753 (Clara Oswald, Nina, Nine. Written for Eleventyfest)
Knowledge of Defeat 1160 words (Eleven and the Great Intelligence)
What we Fear in the Night 1255 (Eleven, Clara Oswald)
A New Being 8482 (Eleven, Clara Oswald. Speculative Scrip fic)
Stories with Swordfights 1699 (Rory, Amy, Anthony Williams, River Song)
Elemental 2141 (Twelve, Clara, Amy, Amy, Rory, Anthony Williams, River Song. Written for
public_call)
Blake's 7:
Information 1762 (Kerr Avon, Zen)
On the Edge 1705 (Blake and Avon on a cliff)
A Cheerful Party 1091 (Vila, Avon, Tarrant, Dayna, Soolin)
Con 2724 (Vila, Blake?)
... that's 17 fics. Wow. Granted, one is only 323 words (and I'm not entirely certain why I'm counting that one, but not any of the drabbles). Still. Huh. 45,700 words. I did not, until this moment, have any thought that I might have possibly written that much this year. Especially since some of these feel like they were written far longer than they actually were. I think it's the move, but the ones that I wrote before changing house feel like they belong to a different lifetime.
Most of these were written either for fests, for challenges (all of those H/C bingo squares...), for gifts, or for meme prompts. Thanks to the 50th anniversary, this was the year of the fic fest. I've never really joined in with them before, but clearly they are a good thing for getting the writer juices going even if I did fall down flat on making a contribution to
dbskyler's anniversary fest (I've got the entire plot of a thing on a napkin. One day, maybe, it will be transferred into digital ink and onto the comm. One day...). Ditto on the bingo challenges, because even if my Bingo ended up being mostly art I still ended up writing a lot while in pursuit of it.
There's also the curious case of the Brand New Fandom stealing in for the tail end of the year. It's very exciting to be writing fic for a completely new cast of characters after so many years of mono-fandoming, especially when the cast of characters is so much snarky, dysfunctional fun. And includes Avon. And Avon's leather trousers. (Also, much kudos to the fans who are organizing fests and things for this fandom, and to the other fans posting fic, because watching a sleepy fandom wake up this is one of the happiest and most exciting fannish things I've ever been present for.)
Next year... (well, this year now). Hmm. I've signed up for Blake_Fest and I've got lots of plot outlines for that. I did a post a few weeks ago of all the bunnies bubbling away. So there's that. There's also the 2 year novel course which I'm really super excited about.
Long-short: 2013 really was unexpectedly lovely.
