My Five OTPS
1) Doctor/TARDIS
2) Avon/Orac
3) Ian/Barbara
4) Dayna/Tarrant
5) Doctor/Master
1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 5?
(Doctor/Master)
Er… not specifically, no. It should be noted that I watched the majority of Classic Who for the first time over a sleepless period of less than three months in first year university (I will also point out that I, somewhat miraculously, also passed all of my classes that year). Since I was so busy defying physics, time, and basic bodily functions, I couldn't tell you which version of the Master I encountered first, much less which episode. I do have a vague notion that it was a Classic Master, possibly the crispy Deadly Assassin edition.
I'm fairly certain I started shipping them because fanfic told me I should, but it's also very difficult to watch Ten and Simm having pseudo phone sex in The Sound of Drums without drawing some conclusions so… hands in the air. I've got no idea.
2. Have you ever read fanfiction about 2?
(Avon/Orac)
Yes!
lycoris has obliged my obsession with this dark and angst-filled crack pairing between a man who wishes he was a machine and a stroppy machine which pretends to have a complete lack of interest in humans (while being actually kind of obsessed with them). She wrote a long and marvellous fic for the pairing, and moreover, is a dear who sneaks little A/O tidbits into unrelated fics. I dance about in shipper squee in result.
Previous to her efforts, the only fic for the pairing I could find on the interwebs was A New Machine, by AstroGirl, which is very good, but Lycoris' fics hit me ship buttons harder.
3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr ID?
(Dayna/Tarrant)
I did have an icon of this for a while. Letme see if I can dig it up…

Credit to Lost_Spook for, 1. The icon, and 2. Getting me into this marvellously depressing and zany fandom.
4. If 3 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
(Ian/Barbara)
D: D: D:
But that's obviously never going to happen. Ever. I mean, the Powers That Be went so far as making them both inexplicably immortal to prevent this. Because no one. No One. Wants to even think about that happening.
Ever.

5. Why is 1 so important?
(Doctor/TARDIS)
It's kind of the main premise of a franchise which has been attracting fans for over half a century isn't it? And in fandom, it's a love affair which has lasted for all of recorded time, making stops from the beginning to the end, and has, literally, changed the course of history and saved the universe… on multiple occasions. I mean, changing history and saving the universe is the Doctor/TARDIS equivalent of dinner and a movie.
And it's a proper love story too, with them getting to know each other and learn each other's quirks over their thousands of years of constant companionship. There are ups and downs, and sometimes they fight, and sometimes they bite (it's like kissing, but with a winner), and sometimes they even break up for a while, but they always get back together in the end to fly the stars and fight the monsters.
They're more than a ship; they're a team.
6. Is 4 a funny ship or a serious ship?
(Dayna/Tarrant)
I'm confused by this question. Is it asking if this is a crack pairing? Because it's not a crack pairing. I'd argue that it's one of the more canonish pairings presented on the show. But it's not a particularly serious hook-up. Tarrant especially seems determined to sleep with every warm body presented to him (I think he's trying to imitate Avon, but alas, even if he gets more onscreen nooky, Avon shall not relinquish to Tarrant his position as fandom bicycle).
They're a very cute, fun pair though. They make me smile. It's young love and ridiculous optimism in the midst of a whole load of awful. They also have Ultraworld, which is hilarious.
7. Out of all your ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?
Ian/Barbara is the pairing which no one ever denies, so I'm going with that, even though I'm probably supposed to talk about sexy Doctor/Master fics here or something. The thing is though, Ian&Barbara are so close they've become one word in the fannish lexicon, and you never have to retcon one of them being a goo!snake American for a bit. Plus, actual chemistry, because Ian's a science teacher... yes? yes?
Dayna/Tarrant come next, because they are both sexy young things, and making explosions counts as chemistry too... right?
Then Doctor/TARDIS, because Sexy is.
And okay, when one end of the pairing's not being Crispy or a Goo!Snake Doctor/Master can involve some very good looking Time Lords.
... do I have to include the pasty computer technician with bad hair and his pet plexiglass box here for fairness' sake? They probably do science too, and they snark beautifully, and I think they work well together, but I am also crazy.
8. Of all the ships, which ship has the strongest bond?
I'm torn here between Doctor/TARDIS because of my mini essay answer to question 5. But also… Ian&Barbara are so close they've turned into a single entity practically in fannish vocabulary. Hmmm… Doctor/TARDIS has that whole telepathic bond and millennia of companionship thing going. But the Doctor also opens the doors wrong and took twenty minutes to figure out who Idris was so…
Ian/Barbara wins again.
9. How many times have you read/watched 2’s fandom?
(Avon/Orac)
I've only done a complete watch through of Blake's 7 once, and it's likely to only be once since neither love nor money will force me to watch the Ben Steed episodes again. *makes quiet sobbing sounds* However, I've watched my favourite Avon/Orac episodes (Horizon, Gambit, Rumours, Sand, Orbit, Blake) multiple times. Okay, those are just good episodes generally, and there's a lot more going on in them than my imagined sub-text.
But Orac literally confessing his love in Sand is a pretty big chunk of sub-text. Just saying.
10. Which ship lasted the longest?
That bad night out at the Gauda Prime club stops any Blake's 7 ship from contending for this question.
Various canon interpretations would say that the Doctor and the Master knew each other long before the TARDIS came into the picture, but I'm not entirely certain about what kind of relationship they had, and whatever it was, I am certain that they broke up a long, long, long time ago. Whether or not both parties are aware of this break up is up for discussion.
Technically, the award would have to go to Doctor/TARDIS, both for real-time onscreen duration (50+ years!) and in-universe length (All of time! And space!)
But I'm still going to say Ian&Barbara. And hey, canon says they've been together for 50+ years too.
11. How many times, if ever, has 5 broken up?
(Doctor/Master)
All of the times. Every single time. Were they ever actually together?
12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 1 or 3?
Doctor/TARDIS vs. Ian/Barbara? Wouldn't the Doctor just pick them up in his TARDIS andfly kidnap them away to safety? Or something?
13. Did 4 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
(Dayna/Tarrant)
"We require the human bonding ceremony." Will be the sum of my answer.
14. Is 5 still together?
(Doctor/Master)
Are they? I think they both have very different opinions on this.
15. ?
The Daleks seem to have exterminated this question! Or maybe it is just fandom in general boggling at the oddness of my B7 OTP (Because, with all the many pretty-ish people to ship Avon with, I would be the contrary one and choose a computer as my ultimate ship partner). Who knows? But! I think this can be solved –
Write me a real question 15 in the comments about whatever pairing you choose (not limited to the above five options) and I'll do my best to answer it in a timely fashion.
16. If all five ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
Wouldn't they all just pile into the TARDIS and leave?
17. Has anyone ever tried to sabotage 5’s ship?
Other than the Doctor and the Master themselves, you mean? I'm sure the Time Lords probably have a few choice words about their relationship. The TARDIS probably is less than thrilled. And I can't see any of the Doctor's companions being happy with them pairing up. Or UNIT.
Basically, the universe says no, which is funny, because even the cosmic backlash is less vicious than the tactics they use on each other.
18. Which ship(s) would you defend to the death and beyond?
All of them, but most of these are fairly straight-forward, fandom-accepted ships. If I were living in the mailing list era I'd probably have to set up a better defense of Avon/Orac, but I feel like, "I could love you for little while or a long while," is more than enough proof to be getting on with.
19. Have you ever spent hours a day going through 3’s tumblr page?
Ian and Barbara have a Tumblr page?!?! Where?!?
20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the five ships to break up forever, which ship would you sink?
Doctor/Master, because I think what they display onscreen is more of an extended bad break-up than an actual relationship in the first place.
