At long last, here are the rest of my responses from the top 5 meme. Sort of. Part of the delay was simple procrastination, the rest was my burning desire to picspam, but that was taking too long so I did away with it. Sorry. Also, stupid lj deleted half my post when I tried to spell check it, which was verily annoying. I didn't feel like rewriting it all, so you're getting the edited highlights for some things. I'm sorry. I'm SO sorry.

From [livejournal.com profile] bewarethespork : Top five alien civilizations…. Hmmm… this one does bear thinking. Letme see.

5. The Nimons

Why? Because, beyond the fact that their sole story is very, very silly, the concept behind these bull-shaped baddies is quite intriguing. There's the whole mythological thing, which is not particularly subtle, but then, it's not supposed to be. The idea of a race which goes from planet to planet through wormholes, destroying said planets in the process, is very similar to the whatchamacallems in Planet of the Dead, except that Nimons are instensely cooler than flying metal stingrays, I think you'll all agree. Watch this video if you don't believe me. Nimons are forever!

 4. The Guardians

Why? Okay, I'll admit it. I just get the giggles every time I see their daft bird-shaped headgear. I think there's some interesting potential with these characters which was rather wasted in the TV show, since they ended up becoming somewhat stereotypical archetypes followed by a *gasp* no one saw it coming reveal that maybe both beings are mirror images of one concept and therefore the same being *gasp* Vat a Twist!

If anyone's happened to have heard the new Key2Time audios, I found that portrayal of the guardians far more intriguing.

3. The Eternals

Why? I'm putting down two races from the same story, but Enlightenment is a good story. I like the Eternals because, like the Guardians, they represent something that's beyond he Doctor's understanding. He wasn't able to beat them on his own. Also, the Mariner was dead creepy.

2. The Time Lords

Why? I was trying to avoid the obvious species on this list; the Daleks, the Cybermen - but I couldn't bring myself to write out the Time Lords. I love the Doctor, the Master, and Romana, but really, they are hardly typical of their species and society. i find it interesting how the portrayal of the Time Lords has shifted from these shining, powerful, and obscure guardians of the timelines who are perhaps a bit cruel in their methods, and shortsighted in their views, but apparently mean for the best; to these corrupt and stagnant bureaucrats who care only for their own protection, who are overly secure in their position, and are more than slightly bumbling; and then again, back to the whole shining heroes thing, the Great and Mighty Time Lords who defeated the Daleks, and their beautiful planet with the red grass and silver trees and continents with very silly names.

(Ten's bright nostalgia really makes me wonder what his reaction might be if he were suddenly brought face to face again with the reality of his people and the ACTUAL society that he RAN AWAY FROM, instead of his rose-goggled, survivor's grief memory of it. This might be why I've written quite a few fics involving dark Gallifrey in presence or in reference.)

Anyways, in summation: I <3 the planet of the silly hat people

1. The Kinda

Why?  They practice androgamy on a teatime show airing during the 80s directed mainly at children and young adults. Also, the episode they're in is full of neat references and analogies to colonialism and Buddhism and feminism and the book of Genesis and probably several other things as well. It's trippy and fantastic. I love it. I also love how the old woman pwns the Doctor.

Now, for [livejournal.com profile] abbyromana ’s query. My top five sinful pleasures shall remain my top five guilty secrets, though I will say that ketchup and fic-writing both rank highly.

Now, my top five alt!TARDIS teams… WARNING, most of these will contain Donna. Because Donna is cool like that.

5. Thanks to Duncan Johnson http://www.whofic.com/viewuser.php?uid=58 I am quite enamoured with the idea of Eight and Mina Harker. Something about the Doctor wrestling his instinctual prejudices to the floor to travel with a sort-of vampire –

I like the concept.

I also need to stop doing silly internet memes and finish reading the actual source material.

4. REG!Nine and Rose. Now, don’t get me wrong, because as far as it stands I love the team REG!Nine already has in his webcast. In fact, I love them to itty bitty pixelly pieces – BUT seeing Rose ripped from normal Nine and plonked down with the even more dysfunctional REG!Nine would be fun to watch, I think. Okay, so I’m just being mean to Rose now. But who doesn’t want to see her try to heal REG!Nine?

Alternatively, you could plonk Donna into the webcast TARDIS and watch the fireworks.

3. One and Myfanwy; because haven’t you always wanted to see Ian ride a pterodactyl?

2. Nine (of the big ears and Eccleston variety), Donna, and Mickey, with the occasional burst of Jackie goodness. What? My shameless attempt at putting all of my favourite NuWho characters together would be brilliant and you know it.

Jackie would be Donna’s earthbound temping co-worker, concerned for her water cooler gossip buddy’s temporal safety. Elton and Wilf would vie for her attentions in a sub-plot. Donna and Mickey would inflict awesomeness upon the cosmos, and slap Nine out of his emo phases.

Nine would eat lots of bananas and put up an improbable amount of shelving units.

1. Seven, Donna, and Ace. I just want to see Donna mother Ace. I think they’d get on well together. And Seven and Donna would be interesting – would he manipulate her (well, duh, he’s Seven), would he argue with her, would she give in to his Jedi mind tricks? Would she slap him? Would they fight or see eye to eye? Would they be equals in the same way Ten and Donna are equals?

Would she stop him from going too far?

Because Seven definitely needed someone to stop him, and mostly that someone was Ace, but I wonder what an extra hand on his shoulder would do.

I foresee either epic nitro9 explosions and tears, or a wonderfully dysfunctional time!family. Both, probably. (If someone writes this AU fic for me I will give them much love, many internet cookies, and did I mention the boundless glee.

Finally,

[livejournal.com profile] vonquixote asked for my top five Donna moments, and, unfortunately, I'm going to have to delay answering that one until after I've finished rewatching series 4. It will be a hard one though, because with Donna I have a strong compulsion to just point at every moment she was onscreen and say THAT, THAT, and THAT ... but obviously some moments were better than others, so an intense study must be made.

Very interesting!

My thought is ... so when you are writing Seven, Donna and Ace, then? ;-) Because that does sound like an interesting team, and one that would never have occurred to me.

Hah! No, I couldn't quite picture that one, which is why I'd love to see what you'd do with it. Not of course that I don't want to see what happens next in the Seventh Doc one. :-)

Besides, you did throw a plot bunny at me, talking of Ten and Donna, which collided with me thinking about something else. But who knows if that will come about because it's warring with the next of my UNIT stories. (Only - the relief!- this one is hardly obscure as it has Six, Evelyn and the Master.)

Alas, I have not seen enough Who to properly appreciate your choices for Alien Civilizations.

However, much, more love for your Alt!TARDIS team choices, especially #3, #2, and #1. (Particularly, #1.)
