clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (11 making faces)

I got an excellent fic rec from [livejournal.com profile] ladymercury_10  the other day, and it made me think that it's been awhile since I last updated my Eleven fic list. Now, this isn't an exhaustive collection since I'm doing this off the cuff of my memory and I'm probably forgetting loads, but here's 7 Eleven recs and a link to one of my favourite fic comms for your reading pleasure. The original Eleven rec list is here.

If there's anything that you don't see on either list which you think deserves a shout out please do let me know in the comments. I loves a good Eleven fic and I haven't really had much time to keep on top of them this past year.

Title: An Ordinary Hero

Author: eriphi

Summary:
The Planet of the Rixxi seemed like such a nice place. Of course that was before the poisoning, the cannibals and the rain. Rory thinks he likes travelling with the Doctor, just not on days like this.

Best Bits:

Well written plotty adventure fic? Count me in every time. The Doctor, Amy and Rory go for an adventure on the hi-tech, fast-paced Planet of the Rixxi. Except, they've arrived a bit late for the party and everything's gone a bit jungle-shaped. It's still nice enough, until the Doctor is captured by some cannibalistic natives, get poisoned, and starts having difficulty following the thread of a conversation. Luckily there's an ordinary hero on board to save the day.

Title:
Awful Tough Lately

Author: [livejournal.com profile] ladymercury_10

Summary: “Is it poisoned?” Amy asks. The difficulty he has focusing on her probably means that it is, but he’s not about to tell her that.

Best Bits:

I've got two poison dart fics on this list. Sometimes you just can't beat the classics. The Doctor is an awful patient; luckily he's got some awesome companions to take up the slack.

Title:
Balance of Power

Author: [livejournal.com profile] eve11

Summary: The Doctor has a plan to save a xenophobic society from itself. If only he could remember what it was.

Best Bits:

Whenever an author manages to build an entire complex alien society and present it in under three thousand words without resorting to "as you know Bob" - that's a triumph. When that society is as fragile and broken as the one portrayed here by [livejournal.com profile] eve11 , when it drives the plot rather than consuming it, when the tension is high, when the main character is still absolutely right despite having a severe case of alien induced amnesia-torture, when the villains and the victims are sympathetic, when the ending is so happy it leaves you grinning and kind of tearing up - that's just pure fic magic.

Title: Don't Wander Off

Author: [livejournal.com profile] eve11

Summary: The TARDIS looks after her Doctor

Best Bits:

See the summary. It's the poison dart cliché. The Doctor is alone. The Doctor gets injured. The TARDIS gets involved. Doctor/TARDIS is one of my favourite things and her alien-ness and love for the Doctor (his love for her) are perfectly portrayed in this short fic.

Title: Night Terrors

Author: Lyricwritesprose

Summary: People have called Rory Williams brave. He doesn't always feel that way.

Best Bits:

Where to start even? I'm something of a connoisseur of Eleven-era fic. I collect them like so many priceless ficcy gems. I especially love Rory POV fics and fics that showcase Eleven's silly, rambling, darker-waters-beneath-the-bowtie personality. Classic references, of course, are always welcome. This fic has all of that, and then some more. It's amazing and clever and just when you think you've been surprised for the last time there's a new bit of sparkling dialogue or strange happen-stance or character reveal.

The thing is, it has all that, but it's not a big epic (tm) adventure story. This is just a normal day on board the TARDIS. Well, normal as any day on board the TARDIS... but it brings with it some amazing insight into the kind of men Rory and the Doctor are and the relationship they have. And it has inter-dimensional space squids.

My name is Rory Williams and I'm quite ordinary, really.

Well, except for being married to the most glorious woman in existence, who actually is slightly mad, but not in the way everyone said. And getting tangled up with her imaginary friend, a superintelligent alien who saves worlds and occasionally the universe when he's not just faffing about. And going time travelling on the night before my wedding, which stretched a really, really unreasonably long time (see above re time travel) and inadvertantly resulted in me becoming a deadly plastic Roman legionary who ended up guarding a box for close to two thousand years, which didn't actually happen in the real universe but which I remember some of the time due to long words which I sometimes suspect the Doctor of inventing on the spot–

Okay. So maybe not exactly ordinary. But it's all just stuff that happened to me. I didn't go looking for it.

Title:
Six of the Best

Author: Dash Westwood

Summary: The Doctor and Amy take to the time vortex after the events of "Victory of the Daleks", but detect a strange signal in 1981. Six foreign lifeforms, one powerful device, and a whole lot of trouble await.

Best Bits:

This fic is like getting a new episode of series fnarg, but in fic format. There's mystery and adventure and a reaaallly creepy villain. Eleven and Amy untangle the plot while staying in character and spouting fabulous dialogue left right and centre.
"I'm heading back to the TARDIS now. There's nothing else here. From this point on, everything's with you, Pond."
"Right, I get it. No pressure."
"Now remember, remove your ear piece. The sonic's signal's meant for locks, not for brains. Unless you want yours to melt."
"Melt?"
"Well, maybe not melt. But you'll get a headache and think everything smells like turnips."

Title: Various

Author: [livejournal.com profile] eleven_romana

Summary: It's Eleven-era fic, with Romana

Best Bits:

Okay, maybe I should be more specific and single out specific stories, but honestly? I love every story on that comm so it's easier just to give the link and let you explore for yourselves. I'm guessing that if you're on my F'list you've probably already been directed over there at least once, but hey, good fic is good fic. I'm a fan of Doctor/Romana and I'm a fan of Eleven so it's the perfect equation right? Not to mention the fact that the contributing authors are absolutely top-notch

Title:
Wedding Night

Author:
eriphi

Summary:
Amy Pond had plans for her wedding night. She's sure that watching her husband sleep was not one of them.

Best Bits:

Rory's got 2000 years in his head and memory reintegration is a tricky thing.

"What is it?" Amy said, even shriller than before. "Doctor?"

"Talk to him, Amy. Stay calm and talk to him. Everything will be fine."

"Do you mean that?"

"No. Of course not."

Ooh, fic recs! *claps hands* I think I've already read most of these, but "Six of the Best" sounds lovely. I'll have to go and check it out! :D

I'm flattered that one of my stories made the list. :) I think you've got my user name wrong both at the rec and in the intro, though. I have no space in the middle and then _10 at the end of my name over here...somebody already had my Teaspoon name.

Thanks! :)

Oh, cool! That sounds nifty. I'm awfully lazy about reading many-chaptered fics, but I'll keep it in mind.

Night Terrors is beautiful and brilliant. Someone else on my FList recommended it and her Wilf & Eleven fic, and I thought they were both fantastic.

Thanks for your kind words about my stories :)

As another wholesale post I'll recommend the Guns N Curls Ficathon over at [livejournal.com profile] spoiler_song, which, though River-centric obviously, also has many awesome examples of Eleven. In particular, this one is short but absofreakinglutely perfect and hilarious.

Another one that is hard to find but that I think you would love is a series by NellyN over on FF.net that is plotty, imaginative, and all around awesome (if quite long):
The Doctor is Out and Stormcage telling the story of an assault on Stormcage prison, and another one more standalone but that takes place in the same universe, Icefall, which tells the timey-wimey story of a remnant battle of the Time War on a planet where silence is the preferred method of communication. Also Rise and Fall by pocketmouse which is Eleven/Rory in the context of them both being abandoned by the TARDIS (Lodger-esque) in Leadworth.

I have a bunch more over at my teaspoon account but won't repost all of them over here just yet :D

Thanks for the recs! :) Seconded on Night Terrors - that one's very, very good indeed. And I shall have to get around to reading some of the others as soon as I can...
