I've got a bit of a scrambled up belief system, but the multi-verse as presented by Discworld suits me well. The idea that there is a multi-verse and that anything CAN happen, but not everything DOES happen, because we make the choice between can and does. I believe that there is a place somewhere where all of the ideas and possibilities gather and sleep and give out inspiration to anyone who bothers to listen. And I believe that belief itself can sometimes make the unreal real.

Which is all just prologue to me noticing last night that Night Watch by Terry Pratchett and Life on Mars share several spooky plot similarities, and wouldn't it be fun to have Sam Vimes and Sam Tyler meet up on the beat one night and have a chat?

The Rules of The Internet tell me that this must exist somewhere, because the Internet is the multi-verse personified. So... does anyone know of the existence of such a fic?

(and bonus points if the Brig is involved.)

I know nothing about either of those fandoms except for the time I read half of a Discworld book and then my attention span expired (this happens a lot, I tend to borrow more library books than I can ever hope to finish), but a cursory AO3 search turns up this massive multifandom multichapter drabble thing, if you feel like pawing through it to see if it has what you want. Sadly tag filtering on the AO3 has been under maintenance, but you can still plug both tags into the search bar and that works fairly well--I did "Sam Tyler, Sam Vimes".

Maintenance seems to be finished, if you use this URL to access the site: http://next.ao3.org/ Don't know why it's a different URL, exactly, but the tag filtering works :)

It's a test version for people to play with before they go live and find any bugs (so they want people to play with it) - the url will be the same as ever once it does. And from looking, it seems to be just a sort of sample of tags and not all of them, although I'm not sure.

I don't know anything about this stuff, just saw the post on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide_admin

Hmm, interesting! It's very spotty, though, in terms of how well it works--I can't get it to filter much without turning up an error. But thank you v. much for the link!

Um, it was the one that's sort of a Macbeth spoof? I think it might have been Wyrd Sisters. The only other Pratchett I've read is Good Omens, which I thought was really funny. I think he and Neil Gaiman balance each other out well. :P

You would think... But I don't know. ( at the last bit - I bet you want Gene in as well, in that case, don't you? ;-p)

Well, that would certainly be very interesting if you did. (And maybe by the time you do, I'd even have the brain to read it.)

Wow! You haven't changed a bit. I agree with your philosophy of the multiverse. For there is a near infinite possible outcomes and decisions to be made, meaning there should be the same amount of realities or universes out, but as you say, not necessarily everything does happen, so there's probably slightly less than infinite.

Oh the quirkness of philosophy and existence. ;)

As for the potential crossover, I can't say I'm as familiar with Night Watch. I have seen a bit of Life on Mars, at least the first season, so I'd be interested nonetheless to see such a tale, particular if the Brig could be involved. Thus, sadly I couldn't write it proper, but I would love to read, if you ever try your hand at it.

Even a quick drabble would be fun. ;)

*hugs* btw, I'm missing you and our outlandish discussions on fandom, life, and the eccentricities of everything else. ;P

Oh, you've grown. Probably mostly in small ways that will only become apparent with time. ;) I never meant to suggest you hadn't. It's just that the quirkness, ability to rant and rave, and creative brilliance that drew me to you several years ago (I think I have that right) are still there.

That makes me SOOOOO happy. :D

Sometimes, people change so much, so quickly (because they have to OR they are pushing themselves to) that I rarely recognize them anymore. And I can't find an equal ground to stand on with them. No longer see the amazing friend who got me through a period in my life. They've become "the friend from that time" or the old friend instead of "the friend I can still smile about and talk to" or the always BFF. :)

I'm glad you are the latter. :)

Life for me has changed too, at least somewhat. Finishing up graduate school by December. I've got at least a seasonal position at Target for the next few months with the possibility of it turning into a more permanent position. But I'm always still looking to get myself into an administrative position in healthcare, whether that is at a hospital or clinic or at some company that produces healthcare material. If I can't get one by next January, I plan on applying for other temporary positions (maybe B&N or Bed Bath & Beyond.

As for the rest of the my life, I did move to a house with my parents last March. I can't remember, if I told you that at some point or not. Also, I was asked to be a godmother by a cousin-in-law, so I'm very very excited about that. I've never been a godmother before. I have no idea what it entitles from me, but I do know I'm at least going to try to spoil my godchild as much as I can. XD Other than that, I'm still writing - mostly in the DC comic fandoms, but I try to dabble in DW and Stargate from time to time.

btw, I am going to leave comments on your new story. I read the first chapter before class. I just haven't had a chance to comment. But, oh, I will. ;)

So for now, please take care! *huggles* I miss you and I really, sincerely hope we can chat again sometime.

I too find the idea of multiple realities and alternative universes and the role choice has to play in the outcomes of things very attractive and interesting. I mean, I understand there is some support for the idea in quantum physics (although there it's really "in this universe, this subatomic particle moved this way, and in that universe it moved that way" rather than "John Lennon survived and brought the house down at Live Aid", but still).

Alas, I know of little good Discworld fic or of any Life on Mars crossovers...but surely it has to be out there somewhere, you would think...? Somebody, somewhere...?

As long as it's not Sam Vimes/Sam Tyler. O.o

*huggles* Oh, Jjpor... you lovely rambling on science and the multiverse is like music to my ears and beauty to my eyes.

Never stop. :)

I'll try not to. Glad to have struck a chord! :)
