clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (Kitty stalk and capture!)

Pebbles came home a few minutes ago. The plan had been to keep her in my room to prevent her from fighting with the other cats and give her a nice safe place to rest quietly... Her response was to tear out of my room at the soonest opportunity and run around the house like a mad thing making me go white thinking she was going to tear out her stitches. Then we did the whole: "you will take this pill it is good for you" "No-no-no-no I will not take this pill!" "Yes you will! Haha! Got it in! ...oh wait, you spit it out and covered it with your paw."

The vet showed us a picture of her uterus compared with a normal cat's. Holy shit. To give some perspective - she weighed nearly nine pounds going in and only seven pounds coming out. Apparently the infection was completely contained which was why it didn't show up on blood work and wasn't bothering her, but if her spay had been a few days later it could have ruptured and killed her. My mother, having seen the picture, is determined to get the other cat fixed while I'm gone.

Little miracle kitty is now sitting under her favourite chair glaring at me. Thanks for giving her good thoughts.

Go kitty! I wish I could get Olga spayed, but she's eleven years old and hasn't been in a car since she was a kitten. I guess sedatives are an option...

Oh, I will. She's a highly odd cat. Doesn't like being held, for one (and, no, it's not for a lack of handling when she was a kitten, she's just weird) and she's not fond of strangers. She does seem to be happy so far (before I left, almost a month ago), but I know that cats don't tend to be fuzzy when they're in pain or discomfort.

Good to hear...here's hoping it convinced your mom. I've got a ton of relatives who're like that, too. (That vets are a waste and pets are lower than livestock.)

Heh. I can tell you from long cat-sharing experience (you don't own cats, you share their lives) that they're tough little critters.

Comfort yourself with the thought you go to her in time.

Of course you are! Humans are cats' minions! :D

Glad she is safe and snuggling...

I'm glad they got it in time, and that your mum seems convinced enough of the severity of the situation to get the other cat spayed as well.
My gf's budgie had a similar situation the other week - a lump on her abdomen was dismissed by vets as a 'fatty tumour' and a 'painless hernia' for weeks, if not months, when my gf suspected the poor girl was egg-bound (unable to lay an egg which is stuck inside her). When they eventually took her in for surgery, as the lump was so big it kept catching on things and bleeding everywhere (and birdie bleeding is a major deal, since they have really fast circulation and not a lot of blood), do you know what it turned out to be? THREE eggs stuck inside her. So they gave her a hysterectomy to avoid any future egg issues, since she'd had issues with being egg-bound before.

So, anyway, glad to hear your kitty is going to be okay :)

I know. It's probably a good thing the other girl seems to be infertile :) She lays tiny squishy eggs that hardly ever cause a problem.
The budgie in question seems to be doing fine now, climbing all over things - just like your cat :) Sabrina had to let her out of the isolation cage eventually because her mate was going mental being able to hear her but not see her - they have this adorable but heart-rending way of calling for each other, it's a bit like a baby's cry in that it's very difficult to ignore.
I'm glad the six other budgies are boys - even if one of them is a bit confused about the fact, at least trans-girl birds can't lay eggs :)

Aw, that's good to hear! I was just starting to catch up with my flist, and you've got back with the good news before I could offer sympathy for the bad. ;-)

(And also: do not blame yourself; I read all that, and really, you shouldn't. But now she's a bit better, hopefully that doesn't need saying).

But, yay, miracle kitty! :-) (And an email will be coming your way shortly, btw! I just keep getting distracted by random things, including occasional actual rl.)

Tearing around the room, spitting out her pill, and glaring at you from under her chair? Sounds like a healthy, normal cat!

Give yourself credit for getting her checked out, and for agreeing to get her spayed at what turned out to be the exact right time. There's no other way you could have known she was ill -- even her blood work was normal, for god's sake. Glad to hear your mom will get the other kitty spayed, and super glad that Pebbles is doing well!

Very glad to hear it. Cats do seem to be a bit more resilient sometimes than you might think. And as for comical adventures trying to medicate cats...oh, I've got some stories... ;D

I have never heard of this condition before. Minerva and I send our best to Pebbles! It sounds like she is recovering quickly, if she can outrun you, and trick you into thinking she took her medicine.

Yay for cantankerous opinionated tough kitties who survive and spit out their pills! A huge relief for you all. Except maybe her.
