I don't want to, but this may be enough to get me moving on over to DreamWidth.

Please don't any of you be facebooking/tweeting any of my friendslocked entries or comments.

Ick, who would want to cross post to FB, anyway?

I've got DW invite codes coming out the wazoo if you want one.

I don't think they expire, but if you have trouble, seriously, just ask, I've got way too many of them.

And I agree with you 100%, this feature would be ok for others who want to use it (though I would never use it in a million years) if it did not apply to other people's locked entries. Total invasion of privacy. I trust my flist not to use it on purpose in a locked post, but sometimes people just click without looking or hit the wrong thing.
Someone wasn't thinking when they decided to roll this out. As usual...

Where did you read this? It would be stupid if you couldn't get rid of a comment (delete it). But ever since the random snark I got from a CBC employee back when my journal was public, I've always used the option to screen comments on public entries, so I don't think this should make too much of a difference. It would be important to be able to ban asshatters outright, but once they see their comments aren't posting, that's usually enough to make them go elsewhere.

And I use the openID feature to comment on friends blogs without opening an account with their service providers, so I think it is a useful option. Hopefully they will think this all through a little more and will work out the obvious flaws.

They know there's a lot of opposition to this feature, so it might be disabled in the meantime while they work out the kinks. Seriously LJ, "beta testing" is not a foreign concept to most IT companies...

Update: Thank you for taking the time to offer your honest feedback. We understand and appreciate your desire for privacy. We share your concerns. Most of us would not want to publish our LiveJournal usernames or FO comments to Facebook or Twitter either (to the extent we even use them). Please give us a little time to address your concerns. We are listening, and we'll do our best to respond.

Whooo! I hope you're wrong about that that too. If not, I might have to join you on DreamWidth... if I can find an invitation.

This is exactly my concern, too. It's not likely to affect me too much personally as I don't have many flocked posts, but I'm very upset by the major!fail this change entails -- a locked post should be locked. That applies to comments as well.

I agree it is completely stupid, and I too hope people on my flist know the difference between sharing my open posts and my flocked posted. I was actually hoping it was impossible for them to do it with flocked posts. :/

Btw, I love your icon. It's from 'The Batman,' right?

*giggle* ;) Right.

Well, I just started watching that show. I'm through the first season, and even though there are obvious differences from TAS and the comics, the show is amazingly well done and does a good job of sticking within the guidelines of its own continuity and canon. I'm particularly enjoying the dynamic between Bruce and Alred in the show.

Also, I wanted to ask if you know any good comms for the show on LJ. :)

I think it's great. I liked the Batman TAS, but it was always so dark; this show has quite a bit of humour, which I like. I also like how there is a perpetually full moon in this show. I don't think they're making a comment about lunar influences on human behaviour, I think they just like the way it looks.

I haven't seen any comms directly devoted to "The Batman" as opposed to "Batman" in general.

I'll miss you if you go, but I completely understand... moving has crossed my mind too. My life on FB and Twitter is meant to be completely separate from LJ.

I'm...feeling mixed. On the one hand, I'm used to not posting anything that could come back and haunt me online (the mommonster has done stalkerish-things online in the past.) I know she's also on facebook, but she's also blocked and IP banned from my blog. (at least the blogspot one...I'm not sure yet how wordpress handles things.) On the other, I worry that people will get used to the little bit of invasion of privacy and won't mind when something bigger happens. Know what I mean? (Am getting sleepy, so don't know if it makes sense or not.)

... I am starting to seriously consider turning my LJ flocked. I avoided doing it so far for various reasons, but it starts looking like a good idea... :|

When they say f'locked comments they mean from entries you yourself have f'locked. Don't think you can share from entries others have f'locked. So if you haven't checked the option to share your comments I reckon your journal content is as safe as it ever was.
I don't like the idea of sharing LJ stuff on Facebook either.

Wow! I didn't realize how much fail this was. I thought it would turn out to only be an optional thing... meaning if you allow LJ to be connected to Twitter and FB, but it's way more flexible and open... then I'm definitely scared.

btw, if you do go to DreamWidth, may come to?

People with extra codes will often give them away here. But I'm thinking there may be a run on them this weekend.

: (

Maybe... I don't know. I once got asked by someone else on my flist for an invite. I didn't take it at the time, because I was quite happy with LJ and... I'd had a bad experience with another invite someplace else. Now, I wish I hadn't. *le sigh*

Well, if you ever find another invite from yourself or you know someone who's giving some away... maybe you could put in a good word for me. ;)

People have been posting DW invite codes like crazy over on the LJ news post that announced this debacle. I too thought that codes were probably being grabbed as quickly as they were being posted, but the very first one I tried worked. So give it a shot, and/or try the codes at http://dw-codesharing.dreamwidth.org. I bet you'll find one that'll get you in.

I've been toying with Dreamwidth but didn't want to "leave behind" any of my Lj people - if we ALL go there, then woot woot! Road trip!

Anyone have any invite codes?
Date: 2010-09-03 05:28 pm (UTC)

From: [identity profile] alouzon.livejournal.com
I played around with the import feature (just for my personal info, I haven't started on entries yet, and I'm hoping I won't have to, I'd rather stay here unless I'm forced to up and move over this) and it works like a charm.

I am wondering what the etiquette will be for importing icons. How do you credit someone from LJ for them? Not everyone keeps the same name on DW and I honestly don't feel like tracking down individuals and asking them out of the blue if they have a DW account name they would like to be creditted under.

I see you have not yet been alerted to the sooper speshul quick fix which will banish the tickyboxes from your journal. It is here: http://lupinity87.livejournal.com/9308.html

You just toss a few lines of code into your custom CSS (one highlight-and-copy, one link-click, one scroll-down-and-paste, one save-click) and voila!

And ftr, if you and/or Prim head over to Dreamwidth, I'm begging an invite code and tagging along. ;-)
Date: 2010-09-03 04:11 am (UTC)

From: [identity profile] alouzon.livejournal.com
Would you check one of my recent posts and see if the fix is working, please? I see it and then I don't on some pages.

Well, it's better than nothing until this is fixed. At least no accidents.
What name are you under on DW? I've only got a couple of friends or whatever they call them over there (I think it's "my circle")?

I love yours too! Is it snaggable?

Sure you can snag it, but I have to tell you that I didn't make it.

A friend from a now dead Stargate forum made it for me many years ago, but I've never been able to find her again to link back to them. Still, feel free to use and at least link back to me for the source. :)
