At the risk of sounding like a druggie peddling DreamWidth invite codes. I've got five of them. I'm still not sure if I'm actually moving over there because moving journals is a pain, but it's looking like there might be a mass migration coming up.

Well, that's all of them. I'm still not sure if I'm running over there because, after poking around a bit, I think I like LJ's infrastructure better and the ticky-box-begone work around seems to works reasonably well. At the same time... it's good to have a back up den if the ship starts going down.

Right here. I'm no computer whiz and I don't think this is a complete fix, but it does remove the ticky box options for most people posting on your journal. No ticky boxes, no cross-posting.

LiveJournal still needs to fix this.

The fuck?

I don't want to, but this may be enough to get me moving on over to DreamWidth.

Please don't any of you be facebooking/tweeting any of my friendslocked entries or comments.

I keep saying that I'm going to bunk down and write some Eleven fic because the bowtie has apparently hypnotized me. Well, I've got the opening done and I think I've just about wrestled the plot to the floor. Now I just need to figure out who's calling... suggestions? (seriously, just throw names at me, random syllables even...)

It's been a bit of a weird day, cleaning house and prepping for my nerd-out weekend (we're drinking sonic screwdrivers and watching Hamlet boo-yah). Is it sad that I've been looking forward to this for months? Then I got it into my head that my credit card had vanished and undid most of my cleaning frantically looking for it (when it was where it was supposed to be the entire time). Head!desk

By request, I bring you a great whacking list of Eleven-era fic which I enjoy and find reasonably well written. This isn't complete. I couldn't for the life of me find the one where he asks Sarah-Jane if seven year olds make appropriate companions again... which is a shame because it was good, and that one where Wee!Amy meets all of the other Doctors out of order during the 12 years.... And I'm sure I'm forgetting some. I know I'm missing a whole whack of good River ones (in fact, I don't think I have any River ones on this list, for shame). Probably I'll add to it as time goes on. But, for the moment, and in no particular order....

A really long list of fic )

It comes to mind that I haven't uploaded any icons in awhile. So, in honour of the first part of the finale (and to give me something to do while my laundry cooks) enjoy!

As per usual: want, take, have. However, if you hotlink I may just have to hit you with a blunt instrument. ;)

The good ol' DbyA - home of cake!fic, of silly hats, of The Thread We Shall Not Speak About, of polite fan rants, late night c-box parties, Doctor vs Doctor and quite a bit of other random stuff.

But even if it had none of that, it would still be home.

Right, I'll be good and vanished and on a plane across the Atlantic by this time tomorrow and I can't believe it came up so FAST. Also, slightly in awe that our move went so easy even though no one showed up to help. We spent all of Thursday carrying heavy things up three flights of stairs.

Anyway, before I vanish for good (again) I'm going to wish a happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] jjpor  and a good May to everyone on my Flist.

:D

My contribution to the walk-into-a-bar ficathon. I apologize for my bad accents, my bad characterization, and, well, this in general. It very clearly sucks on multiple levels.

Title: Conflict Resolution
Your prompt: Mac Taylor walks into a bar and meets Annie Cartwright
Fandoms: CSI NY and Life on Mars (UK)
Characters/pairings: Mac Taylor meets Annie Cartwright
Rating/warnings: Well, it hasn't been beta'd or britpicked, but other that it's safe for the kiddies to read.
Word count: 1243

The TV show meme. All you have to do is respond with "I surrendered" for a shiny prompt of your very own.

[livejournal.com profile] jjpor 's prompt was low-budget sitcom set during a zombie apocalypse and I've done the best I can by it. I'm rubbish at casting actual actors, so I'm leaving that part blank. If anyone has any ideas I'd gladly welcome them.

Let’s make a TARDIS wave throughout LJ.
When you see this entry, post a picture of the show to your own journal. :)

So, I finally scanned and uploaded my giraffes to the One Million Giraffe project: http://olahelland.net/giraffes/?id=45436

If you don't know what that is check out the link. It is further proof that the internet's great potential for awesome can, in fact, be harnessed for good.

And, while we're on the subject of the internet being made of win, I've really got to finish my help_haiti story. I've got about 3,000 words written. Yay! It keeps trying to turn into a multi-chapter giant, but I want a timely delivery not another never-ending-WIP.

Anddd... for something completely different.

I did a bit of icon rearranging last night. Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted one of my favourites. The "Doctor! Time Lord! Yeah!" / "Donna! Human! No!" animated one. It doesn't appear to be saved to my computer. If anyone knows where I could get it back, or else has a suggestion for a good Donna replacement icon, I'd love them forever.

Help?

clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (Default)
I think I've just found some sneaky bugger viruses on my machine. They're lurking in this file: C:\SWSETUP\HPGame\games which is full of stuff I DEFINTELY didn't download. Because I deleted my HP games ages back. And these long strings of numbers don't look very game like to me any way.

Thing is, my AVG didn't detect this. I was getting a bit suspicious when I got "No Threats Found" on multiple scans, because usually it at least picks up on internet cookies, right? Then I looked at it during a scan only to discover that it wasn't checking any files. Because it was stuck on THAT file.

So, now I'm stuck. how do I delete these things? They're slowing down my computer and making me nervous. I don't keep any kind of banking info on my computer, but I don't want to be a zombie spam bot either. And I *would* like to be able to check my credit card bill at some point without fear of these things yoinking my info.

I understand that the SWSETUP folder contains base software for the computer, so I really don't want to go removing things from there willy-nill and accidentally uninstall my operating system as a result.

Suggestions?

Because I am apparently insane, but also very much wanting to help out with limited funds, I've made another offer on help_haiti

Right here

A $10 bid will get you an illustrated fic written and drawn to your prompt.

How's that for a bargain?

And, if you bid over $30, you get the option of seeing my laughable attempts at smut. If that's the sort of thing you like... (I refuse to even go there for under $30, but hey, it's for charity, so bid and see what you get!)

Help Haiti

clocketpatch: A small, innocent-looking red alarm clock, stuck forever at 10 to 7. (Default)
I have just joined the fandom auction help_haiti to help that country in the wake of this week's devastating earthquake. I've never done one these before, but they need a lot of help down there at the moment. I don't have much cash to spare after books and plane tickets, but I do have fic a-plenty.

My offer is on this page near the bottom.

It's a good cause, so, if you have no money go make your own offer, and if you do have money go bid on someone else. There's shiny art, and graphics, and other people's fic, and some really random stuff in the misc section.

The winning bids are forwarded to on to the appropriate charities.

I made some predictions. Let's revisit them, because I am procrastinating. Again.

my theories and results, let me show them to you )

I have no review. No rant.

Well, that's not strictly true: I did rant and review on the DbyA.

I'll probably rant and review here later.

Still, in all the apocalyptic fandom explosions that are going on right now, I just wanted to say:

Matty boy, I wasn't sure at first, but you know what?

You're going to be fantastic.
